Prompt phrase:  “She discovered it by accident on her fourth day at the lake.”

(Completed piece must be in multiples of 50 words – maximum 250.)

It was to be a solitary rest cure

At secluded lake, a healing place

Because she couldn’t connect

The dots anymore…and this lake

Was so pleasant, quiet, still.

Hopes expectant, he’d delivered

Her there, then left.

Four days in, she discovered

The train station…

She sat down to wait.

Familiarity, as Drug

Prompt:  Familiarity drugs thought, and begins to blur instinct.

Familiarity, as drug…

That’s rich, perfect

Solves mystery, satisfies

Child-within’s “why?”

Seemed apparent that

Mom didn’t think, didn’t

Particularly observe; or

Perhaps neglected effort

To process what was daily

Before her eyes, ears

Her children…and translate into

Thought, that which required

Responsive words, actions…

Maternal instinct blurred, evaporated.
