Waiting for Something Forgotten

https://debbiewhittam.wordpress.com/2018/12/06/50-word-thursday-30/

Prompt phrase:  “She discovered it by accident on her fourth day at the lake.”

(Completed piece must be in multiples of 50 words – maximum 250.)

It was to be a solitary rest cure

At secluded lake, a healing place

Because she couldn’t connect

The dots anymore…and this lake

Was so pleasant, quiet, still.

Hopes expectant, he’d delivered

Her there, then left.

Four days in, she discovered

The train station…

She sat down to wait.

WAITING

Thanks to all the authors of prompts, listed at end of poem ~

Pummeled in the waiting

By hail, freezing rain that falls

On both just and unjust—year’s

Challenges, one atop another

Barely time to collect prayers’ rest

Heart nearly frozen

What’s become of Faith’s song

Joyous hope, anchor’s rope which

Tethers in every mercurial season?

Dark storm blows in, as if to remain

I’m lassoing wind, but missing each catch…

Gasping, tearless, this December.

Confused as to “why”, begging a reason

As first I push back, rage against battle

Waiting for hell’s last volley to end

Waiting for smoke, fog to clear, for

Frozen bells to chime arrival, at last

Of Christmas Child, His peace to bring

The only gift soul, panting, requests

Including His promise, Jeremiah’s

“Good future”…and surcease, please

From calamity’s visits.

What is left, but to surrender…wait

For His appearing, certain; wait

For powerful Hand to take night—

Gargoyle’d, lasting all the day—roll

It with rough waves, away…

And usher Eastern Star, come bright

A-shine like jar of Glory’s glittering

Light upon shore, refreshed and balmy.

Then soul, chagrined, will sing again

Exult in God, faithful Father of orphans

Youthful ones, and those not young…

For, ever He rises to deliver Victory.

Immanuel, Messiah, Christ…

Lord of all, in the frozen Waiting.
